Village Improvements

At last we have managed to get a small section of the new fencing put up along Main Street. We hope you all agree that it looks rather fine and improves the vista as you enter Staveley from Copgrove. Once harvesting is over more progress will be made and the plan is to have completed the works by the end of the year.

The Jubilee Recreation Field new hedge has generally survived the very dry year and our thanks go to neighbours who have watered all the saplings.

Sadly we have lost the line of cherry trees and the triangle of willows in the top corner, which were planted at the same time as the hedge. The reason for this is that the supporting canes and/ or the plastic spirals were regularly being removed, possibly we suspect by children. Due to the lack of protection to the saplings, the rabbits were able to eat a few and the rest failed, due to being broken without the support.

It is hugely disappointing that all the hard work that was undertaken for the benefit of local children has not been appreciated by them. We are currently reviewing whether further work to replace the lost plants is worth undertaking.

A new contractor has been appointed to undertake the safety inspection of the area and we are constantly reviewing the condition of the trees, fencing, grass area and the play equipment however we would be grateful if anyone who identifies an issue could inform us via email at clerk@staveleyandcopgrovepc.org.uk .

The old section of hedge will be trimmed imminently and the crack in the Pinfold is being monitored.

New Defibrillator in Copgrove

The Defibrillator in Staveley is situated in the old phone box.

A viability review is underway to assess if a Defibrillator could be installed in Copgrove. The primary issue is if a Defibrillator could be sourced, where would it be sited. There are some logistical issues in this regard so please bear with us.

Speeding traffic and Traffic volume

There have been a number of complaints in relation to the volume and timing of vehicles travelling through the village on their way to the new Hermes site at Jubilee Court.

The Parish Council have been liaising with Harrogate Borough Council (HBC) in this regard and it would appear that the restricted operation times that relate to the rest of the site do not to apply to the building occupied by Hermes. As the site is classified for B1 and B8 use, Hermes are entitled to use it as a distribution centre. On this basis HBC are not interested in pursuing any complaints.

Any issues relating to highway usage, such as traffic volume; inappropriate parking; access issues or speeding; can be reported to North Yorkshire County Council and North Yorkshire Police when appropriate.

We would strongly encourage you to report speeding and suspected dangerous driving at each and every opportunity.

We have received a number of comments relating to the fact that other nearby villages now have reactive speed warning signs to impact on traffic speeding.

Sadly it is currently perceived by both Harrogate Borough Council and NY Police that neither Staveley nor Copgrove have an issue with speeding traffic and consequently there are no plans to site any VAS signs in our Parish.

Vehicle access into Staveley Nature Reserve

Please be aware that vehicles regularly access the reserve along the track next to the church and that extra care should be taken when approaching and crossing the track. Visibility for both pedestrians and drivers is very restricted so please listen for traffic before stepping out and if you are the driver please drive slowly and with consideration.
