Firstly, Happy New Year.
As 2022 begins we are pleased to be able to start this newsletter with a bunch of thank you’s!
The Fence Project.
Thank you to all the residents who provided supporting letters at the start of the funding application which helped secure HBC’s support for our efforts to improve our heritage asset.
A huge thank you to everyone who at one stage or another volunteered to help with removing the old fence along Main Street. We received offers of help from so many residents, some ready with their spades, others with their high vis jackets ready to divert the traffic or ensure volunteers didn’t wander onto the road; people offered to provide refreshments and we wouldn’t mention all the advice that was proffered!
Thank you also to Harmby Homes for offering to help both with manpower and equipment, and John Dixon for offering some of his heavy equipment too. Due to various health and safety issues, Covid restrictions and frankly terrible weather, all the work was finally undertaken by Stuart Barton on his own.
Thank you to David and Debbie Hargreaves who made and installed the new fence. Doesn’t it look marvellous? They not only had to manage the huge time delay between starting the manufacture of the fencing and getting it finished, which the various lockdowns caused but they also accepted and dealt with the site not being as clear and even as we had intended.
Most significantly thank you to all those who financially contributed to the project by raising the additional 25% of the costs needed to supplement the APLCHF grant. Without you the project could not have happened.
The Recreation Field
Thank you to Harmby Homes for the new bench/ planter in the Recreation Field.
There are plans to plant it up shortly and we hope those who use it will enjoy the views, the quiet situation and the natural environment, or even just watching a bit of football, or children enjoying the play equipment.
Thank you to the volunteers who helped plant the new hedge and additional trees in the Recreation Field last year. The majority of the new planting is doing really well.
Also a mention for David Brighton who kindly undertakes a lot of tidying up, both in the Recreation Field and around the Pinfold.
In the next few weeks further works will be undertaken in this area This will include: more clearing of overhanging branches and vegetation; some remedial work on the play area surface; and the stripping and repainting of the equipment. Please pay attention to any signs warning of ongoing works or wet paint!
One final point, this whole area is a dog free zone. Please respect the need to keep dogs out of an area where children play, this zone applies to both the inner play equipment area and the larger grassed area.
Community Speed Watch
Thank you to all those who have volunteered to play a part in making our villages safer.
Also thank you to those who have reported speeding vehicles, this has led to the police monitoring our roads. In addition, following a new initiative from the new Police Fire and Crime Commissioner enforcement of speed limits and vehicle roadworthiness are to be stepped up.
Please drive carefully and with consideration.
Neighbourhood Plan
Thank you to those who attended the open meeting in relation to the planning application for 22 Affordable Homes in Staveley .
As a follow up to this it has been identified that the Parish should complete a Neighbourhood Plan. This plan once in place, in conjunction with the HBC Local Plan will help form the future approach to potential development in our area.
This initiative will take a long time to complete and requires input from all residents. At present we are looking to form a core team who can then start to pull together a considered approach with timelines.
Anyone interested in taking part please contact Graham Bowland (grahambowland@Staveleyandcopgrovepc.org.uk) as Graham has kindly offered to be the Parish Council lead.
