To reflect the start of our community opening again and recommencing its social activities this newsletter is a little different, this is to let you know about events coming up in the next few months and how you can get involved.
Firstly…
As part of the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Staveley and Copgrove Village Hall will be holding an exhibition ‘The Staveley Story’ focussing on the years 1952- 2022 and how life has changed over the 70 years
The exhibition will be drawing on the Alastair Rae collection of photographs, data, memorabilia, and documents which are in the safekeeping of the Village Hall and are currently being archived. However, we would like to add to the archive and are inviting contributions from former and present residents to share their memories of the nineteen fifty’s decade and especially of 1952.
So… please could you help?
- Have you any photographs, or materials (to loan) that illustrate life in Staveley during the last 70 years? especially of village events or groups of people?
- Could you write and share a short extract recalling your memories of the Queen’s Coronation? or your life in the 1950’s? either in Staveley, Copgrove or elsewhere?

And another request…

Could you join in with a collective effort to create a large textile wall hanging?
The aim is to display the finished collective piece in the Village Hall over the Jubilee weekend.
It will depict the key buildings of our village. Each of which will be created from fabrics of different textures and colours and glued and/or stitched into a tile (of up to 20 cm x 20 cms). The ‘buildings’ will then be joined together to produce the completed hanging.
Do please join in. No previous experience or great skills are required, simply the enthusiasm to enjoy creating something unique.
Lizzie Morrell will be guiding the project and will hold a workshop early in April to get things started and to provide help.
If you can help with any of the above requests, please register your interest asap with a call to either Lizzie: 340842, or Glennis: 340575 gccopnall@gmail.com
