Your Council Tax

It’s that time of year when the new Council Tax bills are about to be sent out by Harrogate Borough Council (HBC). Your council tax pays for about 750 local services in our community.
It’s HBCs job to collect the entire council tax bill. They retain just over 12p in every £1 to cover the cost of the services they provide. 70p from each £1 of your council tax goes to North Yorkshire County Council, 14p pays for North Yorkshire Police and roughly 4p is for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service.

Group for Appropriate Rural Development (GARD)

Following on from our recent news post about Jubilee Court on 21st December 2020, we are also aware that there are a number of local residents outside of Staveley and Copgrove raising concerns regarding the volume of traffic, particularly lorries, travelling through the area from the A1M. The latest planning application for Jubilee Court – 20/05185/FUL – has the potential to increase the traffic volume.
With this in mind, a leaflet is being distributed in the area which may be of interest to Parish residents. We currently have no contact details for the campaign group.
You can read the leaflet here.
Information on the latest Covid-19 text message scam

There have been reports of a new scam where a person receives a text saying they need to book a vaccination appointment and it takes them to a fake NHS form which then asks for their bank details to prove their identity.
If you have relatives who aren’t familiar with text message cons, please warn them about this latest coronavirus scam which is designed to trick people into handing over their credit card details to secure a vaccination appointment.
There is a texting scam leaflet you can download here.
The scam has been reported in the media here.

Buddy Scheme Update January 2021

With the resurrection of the lockdown comes the resurrection of the buddy scheme.
Please can anyone who helped a specific household during the first lockdown get in touch with them again and check if there is anything they may need. There are a number of willing volunteers so even if you can’t actually offer the help required, someone else can, but only if we know about it.
Please ask and if needs be, get in touch with Helen (01423 340650 or helen.north@staveleyandcopgrovepc.org.uk) so arrangements can be made. Anyone can receive help, please just ask. Whether it is for help with shopping, prescriptions or a friendly chat, you have neighbours ready to step up.
