Living kindly in a Covid/post pandemic community

Respect and Protect Campaign in North Yorkshire

Since coming out of lockdown, it has become clear that not everybody feels the same about Covid, and as a result, in some places levels of tension and anxiety have increased.

To try and raise awareness and encourage understanding, North Yorkshire County Council are launching the Respect & Protect campaign. The aim of the campaign is to normalise good and healthy behaviours to protect people and encourage respect for individual choices.

As we all learn to live with Covid, NYCC believe a little kindness and understanding towards each other will go a long way. The key messages of the campaign are therefore:

“We all feel differently about Covid….let’s be thoughtful’
‘We are all learning to live in a world where Covid still exists… let’s be kind’

‘Everyone is entitled to respect, so let’s try to also protect each other by following the guidance as issued by the government’s autumn / winter plan’ 

The campaign will be evident around the County through online content, editorials in newspaper publications, and the roll out of various types of signage across market towns of North Yorkshire, including Ripon, Knaresborough and Harrogate.

NYCC is working in partnership with Public Health, Highways, Trading Standards, and Environmental Health, to ensure the signage is installed effectively, and there are plans made for removal once the campaign ends. The campaign is likely to run through to the end of winter.

It seems important to reinforce the key messages of the campaign even without the prefix of ‘…Covid…’

Perhaps we could all just have more of a try at ‘….let’s be thoughtful’
‘… let’s be kind’
