Local MP Supports Parish Council Objection to new Housing Development

Andrew Jones, Member of Parliament for Harrogate and Knaresborough, has written to all residents in Staveley giving his support to the Parish Council and many residents in their objection to the planning application by Thomas Alexander Homes SPV 2 Limited to build 73 residential dwellings on the site SV1 on Minskip Road, Staveley.

Mr. Jones has submitted a letter to North Yorkshire Council’s planning team objecting to the proposal and requesting that they give proper weight to the many objections from residents.

Whilst acknowledging the need for more affordable housing in the area, the letter cites the proximity of the proposal to the Staveley Nature Reserve, poor public transport links, inappropriate “suburban estate” design and the calls for more detailed information about the proposal from other statutory consultees among the reasons for his objection.

In particular, the letter states that:

Staveley and Copgrove Parish Council have objected and the points they make expand significantly on the issues I have raised in my letter. I think they have it spot on.

A copy of the letter from Mr. Jones is available here.
